“This program is so therapeutic for me and I am learning so much. It is a time to get away from my problems” -veteran student
Veteran Farm Training Continues
In February, TALMAR FARM and the Veterans Administration collaborated to offer veterans with mental health challenges an opportunity to receive training in sustainable agriculture. The first group of student veterans graduated from the 14-week beginning farmer training and ten veterans from that group chose to continue their training through the fall.
We welcomed the second class in June. Their training includes other career fields in horticulture, including floriculture, landscaping and greenhouse production. They are an enthusiastic, hard-working group who we know will have great success with both the vocational training and the therapeutic activities that make up the program. We are grateful and thrilled to have them join the TALMAR family!
TALMAR’s Summer horticultural Programs welcome youth, young adults and seniors!
Weekly Day Programs are comprised of many participants from various agencies serving the disability community including Mosaic, CSAC, and The ARC as well as individuals from the local community.
Young Adult Horticulture Group meets Wednesday evenings (6:15pm-7:15pm). This is a drop-in group and the participants are engaged in various gardening activities including, planting flowers and vegetables, nature crafts, butterfly watching and more. Call or email
Senior Group meets Tuesdays 1:30-2:30pm. Studies are showing that gardening offers several positive physical and psychological benefits to the aged. We are still accepting registrations for this group.
Congratulations to Eryck Stamper who recently graduated from the 10-month sustainable Agriculture ‘Breaking New Ground” program. He is well on his way in pursuing his career in the agricultural field (Ag Business) as he has started his own non-profit involving veterans and farming.
