Raised Bed Workshop

WHAT: Learn easy and effective ways for constructing “raised beds” in your backyard, garden, or farm!

WHY: Is your soil preventing you from an ideal garden? Our workshop teaches you how to build raised beds to enable a garden perfect for harvesting!

We will together construct beds, based from designs submitted from students in our Sustainable Agriculture class. Bring a hammer, if you choose.  Well supply the wood, nails, landscape cloth and soil!

WHEN: Saturday. June 3rd, 2017  11:00 am – 2:00 p.m. (Note, This project may extend past the allotted time.  should you elect to stay, GREAT!

WHERE: TALMAR’s Farm Lab field

WHO: All ages (recommended mainly for adults because of construction purposes)

Compost provides valuable nutrients for your garden soil, helps retain moisture which saves water, suppresses weeds, prevents soil erosion, and loosens clay and compacted soils for better drainage and water retention. WHAT: Not sure what to do with your kitchen, garden and yard scraps? Would you like natural, home-made fertilizer for your lawns and gardens in the spring? Then expand your recycling efforts to include kitchen scraps by signing up for this  workshop and make worms a valuable resource for your garden.

WHY:While they require more care than bin composting, worms produce a product (castings) that is considered an especially good soil amendment and nutrient source, and if sheltered from the cold can maintain production year-round.
